Mindsets that visit a tattoo shop.

To introduce this page, I am trying to explain how a tattoo artist must be skilled in art, the medical side and a good listener, and adapt to all the mindsets that enter, very much like the diverse people in a bar.  I give some insight, info, brief explanation and then client emailed comments to the page.  Just some dialogue and revealing internal operations in a shop.
I want to reveal some little known thoughts and elements to running a tattoo shop that probably no one ever actually ponders.
I may have to rewrite this page many times, with your input, my audience.
This element will be the various -
"States of mind or mental conditions people are in when they visit a tattoo shop to sum up into a visual element (the proposed new tattoo) an image they seek to depict what is on their mind".

When an individual arrives at the shop something is about to be represented on their body to "mark" a moment in time and an event, or thought, or state of being and self.

Thus, someone enters : sometimes prepared with art to show me, sometimes with an idea, or curious and inquisitive.  They may begin in this manner, " Our baby died at birth, or our child was killed in a car accident, my son died in war in Iraq, our daughter was murdered..."  Or - " I am getting a divorce, I lost my job, I am broke, I have a trial coming up, I am going to prison."  Or, " Man am I happy - my new job starts soon, or - I have decided to sleeve my arm with elements of the stories of my life, or - "I am in rehab and want to get a fresh tattoo, or "I want to claim my own body".  The beginning conversations are infinite in variety, diversity, and intensity.  They may be rage filled, violent, vengeful, angry, suffer from bi polarity, Aspergers, high functioning autism, have survived a heart attack, have aids, cancer, survived cancer, been abused, etc.

I as an artist must, in a rather short window of time help them through a good or a bad time with their chose for new art.  So, I am trying to "enlighten" you to have an understanding of what we - as tattoo artists in the real world - must be adept at interacting with.  Can we please everyone, all the time, every day? - Heck no.  Can a psychiatrist? - Heck no.  But I know I do a good job at attempting to celebrate, or bring to closure, concerning important moments in my client's life.

This is just the tip of the iceberg.  We deal with people who never wash, are rude, demand instant attention, hang up on us on the phone and more.

Now there are many positive aspects also.  I have tattooed three generations in a single family, helped people with their personal images, given them the true closure needed to an event, covered and hidden ugly scars, old tattoos, pigment discolorations, and more.  I celebrate life every day in this way.  So without elaborating too much, know how much more than just the "art" takes place in our shops.

Celebrate or mark, or remember things, people, or places with your new ink.  Bring a happy attitude, tell me your tale, reveal your soul, and accomplish a new moment in the freshness of life, rebirth, feeling alive.

I cannot solve a person's past, present or future.  I bring you much good luck, help you get through or uplift you, or reflect you to you.

Realize, like I do, that we are all in this together.  We need to share a tale, a story, bare our souls, our bodies, our spirits and commune briefly.

I do my best, with the skills I have, to make it happen.  When we meet, know that someone else like you was helped by a dedicated artist, to realize a dream, to get tattooed with meaning, purpose, and love.

Yep, very cool and inspirational.   I like it.  Well-written.  If I had to critique, I would add more to the positive side of why people get ink.    Only speaking for myself, it is a combination of celebrating life and my individualism.    The act of getting a tattoo is courageous and independent.   It is a journey both in the process, and result.  It is a journey that may never end, which is exciting in itself.   It allows me to reflect my passions and values.   And while completely independent in meaning, it also bonds me to the tribe of other independent mindsets, and there is power and potential in those bonds … just rambling now, but you get my drift.  It’s like a pilot – you know what a pilot is?
